THE CARS
First and foremost, yes, there are still lots of cars from the 50s. There are plenty of new cars (Chinese, Korean, European), but no new cars are sold on the island. Most are brought in by people in the government or foreigners/foreign companies. Also for rental cars - which eventually may be sold to the public. Along with the 50s cars, there are tons of small Russian-made cars like in the picture to the right (sorry it's so bad). The interior shot is Raquel's car. To buy a car like that right now (let's say a 17 year old car) would cost $8,000! The seller will "finance" it and often the buyer will rent the car to someone else - for at least part of the day - in order to make the money to make payments.

With no new cars being sold on the island, this is a VERY common sight.
We had a fun night - as a special surprise a fleet of convertibles arrived to take us to dinner.
And it's not just cars...
